Were TCU athletic director remarks honest?

Eric Hyman, athletic director for TCU, has decided to accept a job with the University of South Carolina. This news came one day after another article had Hyman dismissing any rumors about leaving TCU. He was quoted saying that he was happy at TCU and had no reason to leave.

Something must have drastically occurred within a 24-hour period. If he knew he was going to leave, he should have kept his mouth shut and not led on frog fans. Though I do not blame him for his move to USC. Including potential bonuses, Hyman is likely to earn more than $500,000 annually at USC.

  • I have been in this situation and it is not comfortable. When in sensitive job negotiations for a high profile position, ANYTHING can happen to mess it up. As I understand it, he said he was happy at TCU and had no reason to leave. That was probably a true statement. He never said that he was not considering another job offer and he never denied one had been made. Had he said that he was interested and was considering leaving, he gets bashed by alumni and media for being disloyal. This is an impossible situation to overcome and he did as well as possible. There will come a time in your life that you will have to be creative in your words. Please do not confuse this with being untruthful.
